This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Mary Wallingford was born on 18 February 1851 in Groveland, Essex County, MassachusettsG.1 |
Marriage* | She married Thomas Henderson Finney, son of John Finney and Annie Lane, on 14 June 1870 in Groveland, Essex County, MassachusettsG. The Wallingford genealogy2 and Shackford3 both state that she was born in Groveland, Mass. on 18 February 1851 and that she married Thomas H. Finney 14 June 1870. Bradford records, however, have a marriage between Mary Wallingford and T.H. Finney on 16 June 1840,4 four years before "her" parents were married. These published Bradford records appear to be wrong. Those records come from a family Bible so it could have been a simple transcription error or even an error in the Bible. Their Mass. vital records marriage record states that Thomas was a shoemaker and that they both were living in Groveland at the time of their marriage.5 |
| Thomas and Mary and their two sons Charles and Thomas were living in Groveland when the 1880 census was taken. Thomas worked as a shoe contractor at the time.6 When the 1900 census was taken Thomas and Mary were living alone in Groveland. Thomas worked as a foreman in a shoe shop and it said that he was a naturalized citizen who came to this country from Canada in 1865. They had been married for 31 years and Mary was the mother of three children, only one of whom was then living.7 Ten years later Mary's mother Elizabeth was living with them at 150 Main St. in Groveland and Thomas was a superintendent in a shoe factory. Mary was said to be the mother of three children, none of whom were then living. Mary was still living there when her husband died in 1915. The occupation listed on his death certificate was "shoe contractor".
In 1920 "Mrs. Mary Finney" was enumerated as still at 150 Main St. in Groveland. No occupation was given but she had four boarders living with her so could be said to operate a boarding house.8 |

Clarissa Wallingford
F, b. 28 December 1812, d. 15 January 1880
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Clarissa Wallingford was born on 28 December 1812 in Bradford, Essex County, MassachusettsG. Her death record says she was 68 years, 8 months old when she died, which casts a little doubt on the date of birth given here, which is from a family Bible. However that Bible record also says that she was a twin of her brother Charles. The death record also states she was born in Groveland, which was formed from Bradford in 1850.1 |
Death* | Clarissa died unmarried, of "lung fever", on 15 January 1880, in Groveland, Essex County, MassachusettsG, at age 67. She was buried in the old cemetery in Groveland, Mass.2.3 |
| She and her sister Sophia were living in Groveland, Mass. when the 1850 census was taken. Both were still single, and living in the same house as the family of Jacob and Abigail Scales.4,5,6 In the 18607 and 1870 U.S. censuses, as well as the 1855 and 1865 Massachusetts state censuses, Clarissa was living in Groveland either with her brother Charles and family or (in 1855) in a house very nearby with her sister Sophia. In the 1860 census her name was listed as Carrie. |

Daniel Wallingford
M, b. 19 May 1771
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Daniel Wallingford was born on 19 May 1771.1 |
| The published Bradford VRs show a death for Daniel, son of Nathaniel, on 19 May 1771. (p.367) Given the date of baptism a few weeks later, could this be an error for a birth record instead? Shackford claims this date as his birth date, so perhaps he checked the original record. Both the "death" record and the baptism come from records of the Bradford Second Congregational Church at East Bradford, afterwards Groveland. He may have been deceased by the time his grandfather James Wallingford wrote his will on 3 December 1776 because his brother Nathaniel was a beneficiary of this will but Daniel was not. On the other hand, neither was his sister Hannah, who apparently was still alive to be married later. This may throw into question, however, the marriage of Hannah. Perhaps she was deceased by this time as well? |

Ebenezer Wallingford
M, b. 16 May 1794, d. 21 March 1887
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Ebenezer Wallingford was born on 16 May 1794 in New Hampshire or MaineG. (Calculated from his age at death. Place is from 1850 and 1860 censuses, which give his age as 58 and 63 respectively, suggesting a birth around either 1792 or 1797. Shackford gives him a birth date of 16 October 1797. Some of his information came from a grandson so perhaps that's where he got this date.)1 |
Marriage* | He married Polly Ferrin, daughter of Joseph S. Ferrin and Judith Edgerly, after 25 March 1820. Their intention of marriage was certified on that date in New Durham, N.H. Ebenezer was said to be of New Durham and Polly was of Alton.2 |
Death* | Ebenezer died on 21 March 1887, probably in Alton, Belknap County, New HampshireG. He was buried in the Hurd Cemetery in Alton, but it isn't proven that he died there.3 |
| The Wallingford Genealogy4 by Charles Wallingford states that Ebenezer was son of John and Lydia (Garland) Wallingford, yet the date of birth offered for him, 16 May 1794, is many years after the birth of their last child, making his presence in that family unlikely in the extreme if the date of birth can be believed. He may be the son of Tobias and Sally (Cornell) Wallingford who moved from Lebanon, Maine to Alton, N.H. and according to census records had a son born between 1790 and 1800 who is presently unaccounted for. If true this would make him a grandson of John and Lydia (Garland) Wallingford.
When the 1850 census of Alton, N.H. was taken Ebenezer was a 58-year old farmer, born in N.H, living with his wife Polly, age 56, born N.H., and two younger Wallingfords -- Joseph 21, a shoemaker born N.H., and William, 15, a farmer born N.H. These are presumably his children5. In 1860 they were still in Alton, although no children were living with them. Ebenezer's age was given as 63, and Polly was 66. This time it said Ebenezer was born in Maine.6 They are not to be found in the 1870 census of Alton.
One of Shackford's sources of information for this family was Edwin Eugene Wallingford, son of Ebenezer and Polly's son Hiram Longley Wallingford. |

This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Captain James Adams was born on 22 January 1752 in Newington, New HampshireG. He was baptized in Newington on 8 March 1752.12 |
Marriage* | He married Mary Cole, daughter of Amos Cole and Elizabeth Wallingford, on 25 May 1778. The Adams (p.406) and Wentworth (1:393) genealogies says they married in June 1778 but this is in error according to Somersworth schoolmaster Joseph Tate's diary which has the following entry: "Mr. James Adams of Rochester Married to Miss Polly Cole of Somersworth Monday May ye 25. 1778."3 |
Death* | James died on 10 June 1793? In Rochester, Strafford County, New HampshireG. The Adams Genealogy says he died 10 June "1779 or 1793", giving both dates with no explanation.4 The earlier date is impossible, however, given that the first of his six children was born about 1779. |

| Nathaniel's father Benjamin was first cousin to President John Adams. Some sources give his middle name as Webster rather than Webb. The Adams genealogy has it as Webb, while the Wentworth genealogy refers to him simply as "Webster Adams". The 1790 census refers to him as Nathan Webb Adams. |

Death* | Everett C. Wallingford died of heart disease on 21 September 1943 in Rochester.6 |
| His marriage recorded stated that he was "of Apthorp". Littleton, N.H. used to be called Apthorp, but this was before 1784 so it seems strange that a 1902 marriage record would still refer to it that way. But his father was from Littleton so this is evidently true.
They were living in Rochester, N.H. in1917. He had no children.7 When she died in 1953 Annie was living at 90 Wakefield Street in Rochester, which is the address of the Gafney Home in which she died. She had been a resident of Rochester for 49 of her 74 years, and had worked as a bookkeeper in a bank. |
