Jane Conoleau1
F, b. say 1785
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Jane Conoleau was born say 1785. |
Marriage* | She married first Joseph Wallingford, son of Canadian Wallingfords, on 19 December 1803 at Christ Church Anglican in Montreal, QuebecG. Joseph stated his occupation as shoemaker on his marriage certificate. |
| Jane's name has shown many variations throughout the records, Conoblo, Conoleau, Conoblaw, Conoblow, Cezeblow, Connoblov, Conovlow and Kennoblue. The name Conoleau is taken from Jane's own signature so it is being used as the spelling here. Records of Jane's parents, however, spell the name Conoblo, so that is the name used for her father. Researcher Jim Wallingford of Acton, Ontario suggests that the family may have been native American, and that research into Indian records he initiated strongly suggests this to be true. This would explain the wide variety of spellings, given that Indian names were difficult for Europeans to spell, and, in fact, had no actual accurate spellings. In addition her mother's "maiden name" of Sauvage is French for 'savage' and is the name frequently given in French Canada to native Americans who had no surnames. Edouard Louis Wallingford, grandson of Joseph by his second wife, said Joseph's wife's name was Catherine Colombaugh, but the name Catherine doesn't appear in the records. |

Margaret McCloskey
F, b. circa 28 1827, d. 1923
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Margaret McCloskey was born circa 28 1827 in IrelandG. She was 34 in the 1860 census and 42 in 1870. Based on the age given for her husband Nicholas in three censuses, the 1870 date is likely to be the more reliable of the two. |
Marriage* | She married first Richard McKeone probably by 1850. (His eldest son was aged 10 in 1860.)1 |
Marriage* | She married third Joseph Nicholas Wallingford, son of Joseph Wallingford and Jane Conoleau, say 1858. It seems that they would have been married in New York, since Margaret's first family appears to have been from there, but there also is a possible record of baptism for their first child Joseph up in Ottawa, Ontario. Perhaps the child was returned to Canada to be baptised, but was born in New York.2 |
Death* | Margaret died in 1923.3 |
| Her maiden name comes from the research of Tim Nace. |

| George was one of the first in his family to change the spelling of his name to Wallingford from the more common Wallingsford that his father and brothers used. In some records he is referred to as John Wallingford, so his legal name may have been George John or John George. French Canadians of this period often went by their middle names for most things. |
