| Her birth name was Sebastianna but she later mostly went by Anna or Annie, even though she already had a sister named just Anna. Her husband Joseph's World War II draft card did put her name down as 'Sabestian.'
When their son Charles was born in Nov 1928 they were living at 214 Saratoga Street in East Boston and Joseph worked as a bricklayer.
When their daughter Mary Ann was born in Jun 1930 they were living at 137 Chelsea Street in East Boston and Joseph still worked as a bricklayer.
When their daughter Angela was born in Jul 1931 Joseph was a laborer and they were living at 205 Marion Street in East Boston. They had moved to 158 Bremen Street in East Boston by the time son Paul was born in Aug 1935, and were still there in 1940. |

Mrs. Anna Stella nee Bordieri of 236 Saratoga Street, wife of Joseph Stella and daughter of Paul Bordieri of 273 Lexington Street and the late Angelina Bordieri, died last Friday afternoon at her home at the age of 42 after a year's illness. Born in Italy, she lived in East Boston practically all her life and was a member of St. Anthony's Society of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. The funeral took place last Monday morning from the Rapino Memorial Home, Chelsea Street near Maverick Square, followed by nine o'clock, Solemn Requiem High Mass at St. John the Baptist Church. Interment took place at St. Michael's Cemetery, Forest Hills. In addition to her husband and father she is survived by three sons; Charles, Paul. Joseph, Jr; two daughters: Miss Angela Stella and Mrs. Mary Salamone, all of East Boston; two sisters: Mrs. Josephine Busheme and Miss Ann Bordieri, both of 279 Lexington Street, and two brothers: Salvatore Bordieri of 284 Princeton Street, and Anthony of Brighton.11 |

Salem - Mrs. Bertha E. (Stankus) O'Keefe, 99, of Topsfield, formerly of Salem and North Conway, N.H., beloved wife of the late Timothy O'Keefe, died peacefully, Wednesday, August 7, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Felix and Anna B. (Sidaris) Stankus. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1937. Mrs. O'Keefe began her professional career working with the telephone company prior to her marriage. She dedicated her life to her family and devoted her time to creating a warm and loving home. A long-time resident of the City of Salem, Bertha possessed a strong faith and upon moving to North Conway, N.H., she became a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church. She was an active woman and athlete and was especially fond of skiing, a passion she shared with her family. She was a competitive ski racer well into her mid 80's and was ranked the number two competitive skier in her over 70 age group. She was a wonderful seamstress and a fabulous cook. She was truly the matriarch of her family. She flourished as a grandmother and dotted on her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bertha is survived by her daughters, Elaine Nylander and her husband John of Topsfield and Kathleen McCormack and her husband Warren of Ormond Beach, Fla., her son, Edward O'Keefe and his wife, Barbara of Vero Beach, Fl, her grandchildren, Jason McCormack, Meghan McCormack, Shannon O'Keefe and Timothy "TJ" O'Keefe, her three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Kyle and Quinn and several nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Bryan O'Keefe and was predeceased by seven siblings. Her funeral will be held from The O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem, Monday, Aug. 12th at 9 a.m. followed by her funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Margin St., Peabody/Salem line at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours Sunday, Aug. 11th from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Bertha's memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.5 |
