Birth*Lewis Wallingford was born on 17 November 1814 in Lebanon, York County, MaineG. (Ancestral File for date.)1
Marriage*He married Abigail Merrow, daughter of Isaac Merrow and Mary Kenney, on 22 January 1844? In Dover, Strafford County, New HampshireG. They filed a marriage intention in Lebanon, Maine 1 January 1843. Abigail was of Somersworth and Lewis was of Lebanon at that time.2 The source for the actual marriage date gives the year as 1844 but as their first child Mary was apparently born in 1843 one wonders if this may be incorrect.3
Death*Lewis died on 17 March 1878 in Lebanon, York County, MaineG.4
They were living in Lebanon in 1850 when the census was taken. Lewis, 35 and born in Maine, was a farmer living on a farm worth $1000. With him were wife Abagail, 38, and daughters Mary A., 7, and Sarah, 4. This was in the area of town sometimes called "Wallingford City" due to the large number of Wallingford families in the area.5 They were still there in 1860. Lewis was still a farmer, and his land was still worth $1000. His personal property was valued at $150.6 In 1870 Lewis and Abigail were living alone in Lebanon. He was still a farmer on a piece of property now worth $1500, with personal belongings worth $500.

Birth*Abigail Merrow was born circa June 1810? In Acton, York County, MaineG. (Calculated from her age at death, which was 77y, 7m. In the 1850 census she was 38, in 1860 she was 46, and in 1870 she was 57, which all seem to indicate a birth more in the time period of 1812-14 rather than 1810. Note: Acton wasn't incorporated until 1830 so she was probably technically born in another town that later became Acton.)1
Marriage*She married Lewis Wallingford, son of Joshua Wallingford and Sally Peavey, on 22 January 1844? In Dover, Strafford County, New HampshireG. They filed a marriage intention in Lebanon, Maine 1 January 1843. Abigail was of Somersworth and Lewis was of Lebanon at that time.2 The source for the actual marriage date gives the year as 1844 but as their first child Mary was apparently born in 1843 one wonders if this may be incorrect.3
Death*Abigail died on 13 January 1888, probably in Rochester, Strafford County, New HampshireG. According to the LDS "Ancestral File" they were both buried in Rochester yet died in Lebanon, Maine. The Rochester Town Report doesn't state place of death, which generally implies that a person died in Rochester.4

Birth*Mary Abbie Wallingford was born on 8 July 1843 in Lebanon, York County, MaineG. Ancestral File for date and place, which also gives her middle name as Abigail. An Ebenezer Wallingford of Berwick married a Charlotte Wallingford of Lebanon, Maine on 8 December 1852 in Berwick.9 Both of these individuals are presently unconnected in the genealogy, but it's possible he could be this Ebenezer's first marriage.

Eben was living with his divorced daughter Ida and granddaughter Minnie in Lebanon, Me. in the 1900 census, and he was called a farm laborer who owned his own home.

Birth*William B. Wallingford was born on 27 December 1855. The published Lebanon vital records give his birth as 1856, taken from a gravestone record, yet Shackford says he was aged 55y, 10m, 29d on his gravestone, from which this date is calculated. The Lebanon VRs are taken from "removals to Cold Spring cemetery, East Rochester, N.H."1,2
Death*William died on 25 November 1911, possibly in Rochester. Shackford says he died in Rochester, presumably taken from the location of his grave. Chamberlain's Lebanon, Maine Genealogies says he died in 1910.2
When his sister Dora Doherty died in July 1907 he was living in East Rochester.

From the 9 July 1908 Foster's Daily Democrat of Dover, New Hampshire: SOMERSWORTH

Body of Man Found in Salmon Falls River

Note Left on Shore Leads to the Discovery

Somersworth, July 9

After dragging the river all yesterday afternoon and being almost at the point of believing that a note left behind the “Eddy Pine,” on the bank of the Salmon Falls river below the Gas house, and stating that his body would be found in the river, was left there for a joke, parties searching found the body of a man now identified as Eben Wallingford, Jr., of Springvale, Me., at about 7:45 o’clock last evening. How long the body had been in the water is not exactly known but experts are sure that it must have been only since about 12 o’clock noon, although the medical examiner thinks the body must have been in the water 24 hours. The first information that anything was wrong was not far from 12:30 o’clock when Stephen Guy, foreman of the sole leather room of the Houghton, Hebard and Warren shoe factory in the South end, going to the spot near the “Eddy tree” in the bend of the river as has been his custom thus far this summer, to eat his lunch, discovered a man’s coat lying near a big boulder on the shore. On the coat was quite a large rock and on moving one around Mr. Guy went nearer to investigate. Removing the rock from the coat he saw beneath it a straw hat and beneath the hat a note reading as follows:
“Eben Wallingford, Springvale, Me. Whoever finds this note will find ——— in river.”

Mr. Guy immediately notified Marshal Andrews who came, took in the situation and began work on the case. The coat was a gray mixture and that the hat which had not been worn much was 6-3/4 size padded in the back under the sweat band and was stamped in the top “Aaron” brand. These two articles and also the note were taken to the police station to be used in assisting in locating the relatives of the suicide. The note was written on a double sheet of writing paper and on one side leaf was a letter dated June 23, 1908. As it had been carried in his pocket for some time parts of it were not legible, but it was deciphered by those seeing it as reading thus:
“Dear Wife: I paid the rent and have one dollar left. No good now. You think having a good time. Don’t think.”

On the bottom of this letter in more legible writing were the words "My wife. Mrs. J. E. Wallingford.” This evidently was written just previous to making away with himself, so that the authorities would have no difficulty in knowing who to notify. It will be noticed in his brief message to the finder of the note, that he would not say what they would find in the river and it was due to this omission that some were led to believe that the note and wearing apparel were left as a joke, but it was later found to be a stern reality.

All the afternoon Marshal Andrews and Officer Joyal were working on the case. Several parties in boats were dragging the river with grappling irons after supper and finally they were successful. Napoleon Tanguay hooked his iron into the man’s clothing and brought him to the surface of the water at just 7:40 o’clock. Those in the boat with Tanguay were his son Joseph and Albert Boisvert known as Greenwood. The body was about fifteen feet from the shore in about ten feet of water and only a few feet down the river from where his coat was left.

Upon recovering the body, Police Officer Joy of the night watch, who was present, went to the nearest telephone and notified the police station and then went back and cared for the body which was placed on the bank near where it was found, until it was removed to Spencer’s undertaking rooms at about 9:45 o’clock.

The whole hillside near the river was lined with people and it is estimated that there were five hundred persons who witnessed the recovery of the body. Immediately after finding it Dr. Forest L. Keay of Rochester, medical referee for Strafford county, was notified, but it was about an hour and three-quarters before he could get to the scene of the excitement. Upon examining he saw that there were no signs of foul play and he gave as his opinion that the body must have been in the water for about twenty-four hours. After the examination he gave permission to remove the body from where it had been placed beside the river and it was then taken in charge by Undertaker Spencer. The coat and hat are now at the police station but the medical referee has the note and will use it to assist in locating the dead man’s relatives. This morning the body was identified as Eben Wallingford, Junior, a man about 45 years of age, by Charles M. Downs of Berwick, who formerly lived in East Rochester, and had seen him there. Frank Wallingford of Berwick, not a relative, but at one time an acquaintance of the dead man recognized him as being the man named. He states that he is quite sure that the man formerly worked atn the Houghton, Hebard and Warren factory, this city. He says he knows his father, Mr. Eben Wallingford, Sr., now residing in East Rochester, but does not know anything definite about the family history.

Last night Marshal Andrews telephoned to Springvale in an attempt to reach Mrs. Wallingford or a son said to be working there for the Boston and Maine railroad. It was also understood that he had a daughter, the wife of a Mr. Dame residing at Rochester, and word was sent to her. None of these parties came last night but are expected some time today. It is understood that Wallingford has a number of brothers and sisters, one of whom, William Wallingford, is employed or has been at Hayes’ livery stable at East Rochester. The despondent man had been around the city for several days, so it is said, and according to the statement of George Boisvert, better known as Greenwood, the man called at his house on Depot street at about 9:45 o’clock Monday and asked for a place to “get under cover.” He then said he came here from Biddeford. Yesterday noon at about 11:45 o’clock, Mr. Boisvert says he met the man near Ephraim Boucher’s blacksmith shop on Main street. Boisvert accosted him with the remark “Well you haven’t gone yet,” whereupon he replied “I am going to start today. I’ll try and get out of the way; I don’t want to stay here long.” Boisvert thought nothing of this significant remark at the time but passed on about his business while the other man, he says, stopped near the corner of the blacksmith shop. It is not but a little way to the river from there and he could easily have made it in six or eight minutes. Boisvert is very confident that the man with whom he had the conversation is the same unfortunate man. He was intoxicated both times he saw him and so informed Mr. Boisvert yesterday noon.

In searching the clothing which he had on after the body was taken from the water, a clay pipe all filled ready to smoke was found unbroken in his vest pocket and among the other things in his vest pocket were two combs, a pocket mirror and several papers. One of these papers was a workman’s tally card from the Prescott B. Keith Shoe company, which showed that $11.56 worth of work had been done. This was not dated. There were also two envelopes bearing the name of Arthur Watson, jeweler, Dover. These both bore the number 14,519,689. What this signifies is not known, but possibly Mr. Watson could give some light on it. In his trousers’ pocket was a pocketbook containing two 2-cent stamps and a fish hook, but not a penny of money..4

Death*Mary E. Bean died after several weeks' illness on 30 March 1907 at the residence of her daughter Bertha Dame on Park Street in Rochester, Strafford County, New HampshireG.3
Some web sources say she was married to a Goodwin before she married Ebenezer, without providing evidence beyond her surname being Goodwin on some of her children's later vital records. But that might be due to her marrying a Goodwin second, after her marriage to Ebenezer ended. On their marriage record she is referred to as "Miss" Mary E. Bean.
Her obituary appeared in the 5 April 1907 Springvale Advocate and read as follows:

Mrs. Mary Wallingford, aged 43 years, 3 months, 23 days, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Eugene Dame on Park street, Rochester, Saturday after a several weeks' illness. The deceased had resided in Lebanon, Me., but prior to her going to Rochester, had resided in East Rochester. Two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Dame and Mrs. Edna Little both of this city survive her. The funeral obsequies were held at her late home Monday afternoon. Rev. L. R. Danforth officiating. Vocal music was rendered by Mrs. Grace Coffin. The remains were placed in the tomb in East Rochester.3
