Birth* | Edna M. Wallingford was born circa 1886 in Rochester, Strafford County, New HampshireG. Shackford gives two different years of birth for Edna (1885 and 1887) and says it took place in Lebanon, Maine.1 Her marriage record says she was 18 in January 1905, implying birth about 1886, and that she was born in Rochester, N.H. Her parents names were given as Eben C. Wallingford and Mary E. Goodwin. |
Marriage* | She married Frank W. Little, son of Charles W. Little and Mary Sargent, on 25 January 1905 in Rochester, Strafford County, New HampshireG. At the time of their marriage he was a shoecutter living in Newburyport, Mass. (where the marriage was recorded) and she was a waitress living in Rochester.2 |
| She had a her first child, a daughter, by a man named Frank Eaton. Edna and Frank Little may have died before 1910, as the Rochester census of that year shows a Dorothy F. Little, aged 4, to be living with a family headed by a Charles O. Canney. She is listed as a boarder with no obvious relatives present. Edna and Frank haven't been located in the 1910 census using the indexes at HeritageQuest.com so may have died by this point. |

| Her obituary appeared in the 13 July 1908 Foster's Daily Democrat and read as follows:
East Rochester, July 13. Mrs. Dora Doherty, aged 36 years, the wife of Frank Doherty, died very sudden at her home on Green St. Saturday night and the news of her death was a great shock to her family, relatives and friends. Although she had suffered a number of years with a stomach trouble it was never at once anticipated that the end was so close at hand. Saturday night she grew very ill and the end came about midnight. The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eben Wallingford and was born in Lebanon. She attended the public schools after which she was employed in the mills here for a number of years. She was a lady held in high esteem by all her friends. She is survived by a husband, two small daughters also a father, two sisters Mrs. Ida Jones and Mrs. Perley Ham both of this place and two brothers William Wallingford of this place and James of Lebanon, all of whom have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their continued hours of affliction. Much trouble has been the lot of the Wallingford family the past few days. Mr. Wallingford Sr. breaking his shoulder Wednesday and that same afternoon his son drowning at Somersworth and now his daughter’s death. The funeral of Mrs. Doherty will take place at her late home to-morrow afternoon and the services will be under the direction of Undertaker R. M. Edgerly of Rochester.5 |

Birth* | Jonathan Wallingford was born circa 1797 in MaineG. (Based on age of 84 on gravestone, 52 in the 1850 census and 61 in the 1860 census.) |
Marriage* | He married Rachel Knox, daughter of William Knox and Sarah (?), on 15 October 1820 in Berwick, York County, MaineG. They filed a marriage intention in Lebanon, Maine on 1 July 1820. Rachel was of Berwick at the time, and Jonathan was from Lebanon.1 On their marriage record in Berwick the places are the same, and Rachel's surname is spelled Nock in both places as well.2 |
Death* | Jonathan died, on 30 November 1880, in Berwick, York County, MaineG. He was buried in a private cemetery on the north side of Blaisdell's Corner Road in Berwick, Maine.3.4 |
| His placement in the family of Garland and Betsey (Rankins) Wallingford comes from the Charles Wallingford book5. Shackford6 places him in the family of Aaron and Betsey (Downs) Wallingford -- Aaron being Garland's brother. Charles Wallingford used Shackford as a source, so we will presume for the time being that he had reason to make the change. Until more evidence is forthcoming, however, his position in the family remains tentative. In the 1860 census he and his family are enumberated between the families of his brothers George and Lafayette, which is further evidence that he belongs here. It is also worth noting that if Jonathan was truly born about 1797 then he wouldn't be a child of Aaron, given that Aaron filed an intention of marriage four years after that date.
Jonathan Wallingford, a 52 year old farmer, born in Maine, lived on a $500 piece of farmland in Berwick, Maine at the time of the 1850 census. His wife Rachel, five of their children, and their son George's wife were living with them. Next door was a Knox family that may be relatives of Rachel. In 1860 they were still in Berwick and he was a farmer with land worth $700. Rachel and two of his children were with him. In 1870 their farm in Berwick was worth $1000 and the only child still living with them was his son Amos with his wife and two eldest children. |

Death* | Betsey died on 6 December 1886, probably in Lebanon, York County, MaineG.3 |
| A Betsey Brock, wife of Nathaniel, died 6 December 1886 aged 91y, 6m, according to the Lebanon, Maine published vital records. This was from a cemetery record originally.4 If this is our Betsey she would have been born around June 1795 rather than the 1806 date given by the Wallingford Genealogy. This is entirely possible but needs more research. Chamberlain's "Lebanon Genealogies" confirms that Betsey died on this date. |
