At the time of their marriage Nicholas was a bookkeeper living at 151 Washington Street in Peabody, Mass. and Katherine was a stenographer living at 14 Andover Street in Peabody. When their daughter Barbara was born in 1925 they were living at 20 Aborn Street in Peabody and Nicholas still worked as a bookkeeper. When their daughter Nancy was born in 1931 they were living at 153 Washington Street in Peabody. Two years later when their son John was born the address was 157 Washington Street, and Nicholas worked as an oil dealer. When he filled out his WWII draft card he and Catherine were still at that address and he was working for a company called Clare and Ahearne at 121 Main Street in Peabody. He was 5'11.5" tall, weighed 220 pounds, and had blue eyes and brown hair. When he died in Aug 1958 Nicholas was self-employed as a partner in the Clare & Aherne Service Station and was living at 157 Washington Street in Peabody. He had been living in Peabody for 50 years at that point.4
John Vincent MacDonald was born on 20 July 1905 in Peabody, Essex County, MassachusettsG. His parents were living at 6 Berry Street in Peabody when he was born.1
When the 1930 census was taken he was living with his parents at 14 Andover Street in Peabody, Mass. and worked as a stenographer for the Boston & Maine Railroad. When he filled out his WWII draft registration card in Oct 1940 he was still living with his parents at 14 Andover Street and was still employed by the Boston & Maine Railroad. He weighed 195 pounds and was 6 feet tall with blue eyes and black hair. His home and occupation were the same in the Apr 1940 census, and it also noted that he was single and had a 4-year High School education.
When they were married in Jun 1941 they were both living in Peabody and John worked as a clerk.
In May 1942 when their daughter Joanne was born John and Mary were living at 6 Emmett Street in Peabody, and John worked for the railway police. He was still in that job when the 1950 census was taken, and the family was living at 169 Newbury Street in Boston.
When Mary died in Jun 1976 they were living at 3 Lowe Street in Peabody. Her occupation was given as key punch operator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.5

When he filled out his WWII draft registration card in Oct 1940 he was still living with his parents at 14 Andover Street and was employed at the New Ocean House Hotel in Swampscott, Mass. He weighed 165 pounds and was 5'11.5" tall with blue eyes and brown hair.
He hasn't been located in the 1940 census, but wasn't living with his parents any more. Perhaps he was in the military, as he worked on General Eisenhower's staff during World War II.5

When their son Jeffrey was born in 1949 William was still a leather worker and they were living at 19 Groton Street in Ayer. Two years later when their daughter Catherine was born they were living on Groton School Road in Ayer and William worked as a supervisor at the Hartnett Tanning Co.
When their son Jeffrey died in a car accident in Jun 1966 they were living at 27 Adams Street in Littleton, and had been there for five years.

Barbara M. (Clare) Comeau, 88, a resident of Littleton, MA, died Friday, June 6, surrounded by family and friends at her home. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and her husband Jay of Liverpool, a daughter, Cynthia A. Bostick of Groton, MA; a son and daughter-in-law, John C. and Ann Comeau of Dracut, MA; eight grandchildren: Sean Conor Lyttle; Kara and Chris Comeau; Rebecca and Abby Bostick; Ken, Seph, and Karey Gatu; four great-grandchildren; her treasured cousin Joanne Casella; and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was the mother of late Jeffrey P. Comeau. She was predeceased by her sister Nancy J. (Clare) Swanson and her brother, Jack N. Clare. Barbara was born in Peabody, Oct. 12, 1925, to Nicholas F. Clare and Catherine A. (Macdonald) Clare. She graduated from Peabody High School at the age of 16 in 1942. She went on from there to enjoy a long career in the medical profession, working as a Medical Laboratory Assistant at Ayer Community Hospital, the Offices of Dr. Hopkins and Dr. Mclean in Ayer, and Nashoba Community Hospital in Ayer. In 1977 she graduated from the Boston School of Cytology at Northeastern University. Thereafter she worked as a cytotechnologist at Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg, MA and finished her career at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA. She was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, The American Society for Cytotechnology, and the Massachusetts Cytology Society. Barbara was an early opponent of the Vietnam War in the 1960's. In the 1970's she was a co-founder of the Littleton Youth Center. In retirement Barbara worked part time and volunteered at the Reuben Hoar Library in Littleton, MA, and did income tax preparation work under George Dewey, a Littleton CPA. She was also a member of the Littleton Town Democratic Committee. She was a strong advocate for women's rights throughout her life. Barbara was an avid reader and often read 3 or 4 mystery novels a week. She took delight in gardening. She enjoyed traveling and went on trips to Hawaii, Greece, and Ireland multiple times. She also went on multiple trips to Cancun, Mexico, with her dear sister Nancy. She was a Littleton resident for 53 years. Friends may call at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St.., Littleton, MA on Friday from 4 until 8pm. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 9am on Saturday at St. Anne Parish, 75 King St. Littleton, MA. Burial in Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Barbara's memory may be made to the Reuben Hoar Library in Littleton or the American Red Cross.2

John Nicholas Jack Clare, 70, formerly of Peabody, died suddenly and unexpectedly last Friday at his home in Atlanta. Born in Peabody, MA, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Macdonald) Clare. He lived in Peabody for many years, and attended Peabody schools, and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1950. He graduated from Boston University. Mr. Clare served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He went on to Northeast Airline School and became an Aviation Mechanic. The merger of Northeast Airlines with Delta Airlines brought his job to Atlanta where he moved several years ago. He retired about five years ago. Mr. Clare enjoyed his friends, and family gatherings and love of the Irish culture. He was a member of the A.O. H., Division 11 in Peabody, and his stories brought smiles and laughter to his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his family, including a sister, Barbara Comeau of Littleton, MA, his numerous nieces and nephews, the Swanson family of Wenham, MA and the Comeau family. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut ST., of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 P.M. Grave Committal will be in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.3
Leonard Frank Swanson died of Parkinson's Disease on 27 November 2020 at his home, 303 Brooksby Village Drive in Peabody, Essex County, MassachusettsG. His remains were cremated.3

Peabody - Mr. Leonard F. Swanson, 89, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, loving husband of Judith Allyn Putnam, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 27, 2020. Born in Boston, he was the son of late Oscar and Loretta Swanson. Leonard was raised and educated in Jamaica Plain and he continued his education attending Northeastern University earning his Bachelor of Arts in Education. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a LTJG in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean conflict. An educator by profession, Leonard taught as a 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Elementary School Teacher. Leonard's calling was in education, as evidenced by his 36 years teaching. He began his career employed with the Wakefield School District and matriculated to the Hamilton-Wenham School District, where he dedicated over 33 years to educating his students until the time of his retirement. During that time he was also the Director of Operation Genesis, a summer educational program for inner city students on the North Shore. He took great pride in providing this experience and opportunity. His imaginative and creative teaching provided many students over the years with a truly rich experience. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Leonard was a true family man and pursued many interests over his lifetime. Leonard was a very active member of the NSUU church in Danvers, and held many leadership roles over a 44 year tenure. His passion for connecting with others brought many experiences to him; he was an active member of the North Shore Chapter of Friendship Force that facilitated exchange trips to many countries around the world. He was a Fulbright Exchange Teacher in England for one year, a high point in his life including many trips on the English canals. He took great pleasure in traveling with his children and grandchildren near and far. These experiences brought him and his extended family great joy. He also loved walking outdoors and was a devoted dog lover. Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Judith Putnam of Peabody, his three daughters, Amy Swanson Salmon of Paris, France, Emily Foley and her husband Ron of Derry, N.H., Mary Beth Osborne and husband Mark of Gloucester, his sons, Leonard Swanson Jr., of Gloucester, Andrew Swanson and his wife Marie of Manchester, N.H., Eric Swanson and his wife Tracee Kneeland of Boxford, Judy's children Deborah Waybright and her husband, Eric of Georgetown and Mark Rand and his wife, Patricia of Houston, TX, sister in law Polly Southwick of Peabody, and his 10 grandchildren. seven great-grandchildren, and several cousins.4
