F, b. 8 June 1797, d. 12 May 1874
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Rachel Knox was born on 8 June 1797. (Calculated from age at death.)1 |
Marriage* | She married Jonathan Wallingford, son of Garland Wallingford and Betsey Rankins, on 15 October 1820 in Berwick, York County, MaineG. They filed a marriage intention in Lebanon, Maine on 1 July 1820. Rachel was of Berwick at the time, and Jonathan was from Lebanon.2 On their marriage record in Berwick the places are the same, and Rachel's surname is spelled Nock in both places as well.3 |
Death* | Rachel died on 12 May 1874. She was buried in a private cemetery on the north side of Blaisdell's Corner Road in Berwick, Maine.4 |
| Her name was also spelled Nock. Her parentage is only presumed from the fact that her brother(?) Benjamin Knox and his family were living next door to Jonathan and Rachel in the 1850 census of Berwick. |

Nathaniel L. Wallingford
M, b. 20 January 1821, d. 24 March 1896
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Marriage* | He married Mary Fifield, daughter of Charles N. Fifield and Unknown Lord.1 |
Birth* | Nathaniel L. Wallingford was born on 20 January 1821 in Berwick, York County, MaineG. (Calculated from age at death.)2 |
Death* | Nathaniel died of inanition, on 24 March 1896, in Somersworth, Strafford County, New HampshireG, at age 75. Inanition is defined as the wasting of the body from starvation..3 |
| He lived in Blackwater, NH.4 (This is the name of one of the school districts in Dover, N.H., and the name was often mentioned as a locality in the early records.5)
Nathaniel appears with his parents in the 1850 census of Berwick, Maine, but the 1850 census of Somersworth has a Nathaniel Wallingford, age 27, born Maine, occupation "Manufacturer", living in the household of Charles Carr. With the Carr family are some people from Ireland, as well as an 82-year old Susan Wallingford, who could be Susanna (Corson) Wallingford, wife of this Nathaniel's great uncle Moses, but there is no telling for sure.6 Moses Wallingford's property in Lebanon, Maine was passed to a Charles Carr after his death in 18477, so there is a connection right there. Next door are James and Polly Wallingford. James may be the uncle of this Nathaniel. The two Nathaniels (in Berwick and in Somersworth in 1850) could be the same person, but there is not enough evidence to prove that at this point. The 1860 census of Somersworth, N.H. has a Nathaniel L. Wallingford, age 39, a carder born in Maine, living with Charlotte C. Wallingford, age 49, born in N.H., and Mary C. Wallingford, age 4, born in N.H.8 The age is correct for it to be this Nathaniel, but the wife and child, if that is who they are, don't match at all. |

M, b. 19 September 1822, d. 31 October 1903
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | George Wallingford was born on 19 September 1822. (Calculated from age on gravestone, although the age Shackford gives differs by one month, meaning he would have been born one month earlier. Check gravestone.) |
Marriage* | He married Almyra Wallingford, daughter of Stephen Wallingford and Mercy Wallingford, on 24 March 1850 in Berwick, York County, MaineG. They were both of Berwick when they filed their intention nearly two years earlier on 31 March 1848. The compiler of the Berwick vital records book from which this information was taken adds a "sic" note to the marriage date so the two year gap is apparently not a mistake.1 |
Death* | George died on 31 October 1903 in Berwick, York County, MaineG. He was buried in a private cemetery on the north side of Blaisdell's Corner Road in Berwick, Maine.2,3 |

Almyra Wallingford
F, b. circa 1828, d. 19 February 1899
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Almyra Wallingford was born circa 1828. She may have been the daughter of Stephen Wallingford and Mercy Wallingford. (Based on age of 69 on gravestone, but this would have her being born before her parents were married. If she is the Almira Wallingford, age 22, living in the household of her in-laws in 1850, this would be additional confirmation of a birth about 1828. It may be that she belongs with a different set of parents.) |
Marriage* | She married George Wallingford, son of Jonathan Wallingford and Rachel Knox, on 24 March 1850 in Berwick, York County, MaineG. They were both of Berwick when they filed their intention nearly two years earlier on 31 March 1848. The compiler of the Berwick vital records book from which this information was taken adds a "sic" note to the marriage date so the two year gap is apparently not a mistake.1 |

This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Hiram Hayes Hobbs was born on 12 January 1802 in Berwick, York County, MaineG.1,2,3 |
Marriage* | He married Mary Hamilton Cushing, daughter of John Cushing and Olive Wallingford, on 19 October 1826. Their family record, with birth dates and places for each of them, as well as their marriage date and births of their two children, appear in the South Berwick town records, recorded in 1839. No place is given for their marriage, however, and as records of marriages were being kept in 1826 it seems probable that they married elsewhere.4 |
Death* | Hiram died on 9 March 1884 in South Berwick, York County, MaineG.5 |
| The Cushing Genealogy says his middle name was "Hay", but his own son said it was "Hayes". His mother's name comes from a variety of sites on Rootsweb's WorldConnect Project (viewed 5 Jan 2004) and hasn't been verified in other sources. |
