Jonas Platts
M, b. circa 1664, d. 12 January 1754
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Jonas Platts was born circa 1664, probably in Rowley, Essex County, MassachusettsG. He was baptized in the First Congregational Church of Rowley with his sister Elizabeth on 9 August 1668. Based on his age at death he would have been born about 1664, and looking at the births of his other siblings in the Rowley records that seems fairly accurate. He had siblings born 1656, 1658, and 1661, followed by the 1668 baptism of he and his sister Elizabeth, followed by baptisms of siblings in 1670, 1672 and 1676.1 |
Marriage* | He married first Ann Bailey, daughter of Deacon Joseph Bailey and Abigail Trumbull, on 10 September 1702 in Bradford, Essex County, MassachusettsG. Jonas and his first wife Ann had at least eight children born in Bradford.2 Ann was born 24 September 1678 in Bradford, daughter of Deacon Joseph Bailey and Abigail Trumbull.3,4 She died 22 or 25 October 1738 in Bradford. The date of the 25th is from town records and the 22nd is from records of the Bradford Second Congregational Church at East Bradford, afterwards Groveland.56 |
Marriage* | He married second Sarah Elithorpe, daughter of John Elithorpe and Mary (?), on 27 February 1738/39 in Bradford, Essex County, MassachusettsG. On 10 October 1746, in Bradford, Mass. Sarah Platts was one of the signatories to the acknowledgement of the receipt of 4 pounds, 13 shillings and 4 pence from Jonathan Wallingford "in full of a Bond which was due to Jemima Wallingford late Decd". This was money due Sarah's daughter Jemima from the estate of her father. The other signers (all gave their marks and didn't actually sign) were Sarah's other children Elizabeth, Martha (and husband James), and Margaret (and husband Benjamin).78 |
Death* | Jonas died on 12 January 1754 in Bradford, Essex County, MassachusettsG. His death record reported that he died in his 90th year.9 |

Benjamin Weymouth
M, b. 1 February 1693/94, d. by 28 April 1756
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Benjamin Weymouth was born on 1 February 1693/94 in Dover, New HampshireG.1 |
Marriage* | He married Sarah Morrell on 14 June 1716.2 |
Death* | Benjamin died by 28 April 1756, when his estate was probated, probably in Somersworth, New HampshireG.3 |
| On 21 January 1721/2 Benjamin Weymouth and Sarah his wife "owned the Covenant" and were baptized as members of the First Church of Berwick, Maine. The record goes on to say "Baptized as were also Benja[illeg] the children of sd Benja & Sarah Weymouth".4
On 25 April 1729 Benjamin and many other residents of the area of Dover now known as Rollinsford signed a Dover petition asking the Governor, Council and General Assembly to set off the northeast part of Dover as a separate parish.5 This was the beginning of the parish of "Summersworth", later to become the town of Somersworth.
Benjamin Weymouth, husbandman of Somersworth made his will on 20 May 1754, "Being very weak and Sick in Body". As the will wasn't proved until 28 April 1756 he may have recovered from whatever was ailing him at the time. First he gave to his "dearly Beloved Sarah", his widow, "The Improvement of ye whole of My Homestead, together with ye appurtenances & priviledges thereunto belonging (excepting what I shall hereafter give to My beloved Son Jhon) during her natural Life." To his son Benjamin he gave twenty shillings old tenor, to be paid by his son Nicholas, within three years after the death of his wife Sarah. To son John, 15 acres of his homestead "begining Westward of My dwelling & Eastward of his dwelling House". To his son Nicholas he gave all the rest of his homestead with all the appurtenances and privileges thereunto after the decease of his widow Sarah. Also to John and Nicholas went 20 acres of "my Common right to be laid out So far as may be needed to Cover what Common lands I May now have within my Inclosure, in My Home stead, if ye be any of My Common right remaining, to be equally Divided between them." To his daughters Mary, Sarah, and Esther he gave each 100 pounds old tenor to be paid by his son Nicholas within three years after his wife Sarah died. To his daughters Abigail and Elizabeth he gave each 20 shillings old tenor to be paid by Nicholas within three years of Sarah's death. To his wife Sarah he gave the "Improvement of all My Stock of Creatures and Utensils for farming during her natural life", and after she died these would go to Nicholas. Also to Sarah during her life went all his household goods and after her death these were to be equally divided between his sons John and Nicholas. Finally he made his son Nicholas his executor and left to him all the rest of his estate not otherwise accounted for. Benjamin signed as "Benjamin Wamouth" and it was witnessed by James Hobbs, James Philpot, and Archibald Smith. The will was proved 28 April 1756.6 |

This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Elisabeth Baker was born. No possible birth records appear for her in either Bradford, Newbury or Rowley.1 |
Marriage* | She married Joseph Wallingford, son of Samuel Wallingford and Lydia Poore, on 5 September 1751 in Newbury, Essex County, MassachusettsG. It isn't certain that this is the Joseph who married on that date, but there appears no other Joseph Wallingford who is a likely candidate.2,3 |
Marriage* | She may have married second Jonas Laskey on 8 August 1762 in Ipswich, Essex County, MassachusettsG. Jonas/Thomas was from Wenham, Mass. at the time of their marriage, and the Wenham record states that his name was Thomas but the marriage intention gave his name as 'Jones'.
This marriage record may pertain to some other Elizabeth Wallingford, but no other likely candidate is available at present.4,5 |
| No records for the deaths of Jonas or Elisabeth can be found in the published Essex County, Mass. vital records. |

This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | David Wallingford was born on 30 August 1742 in Rowley, Essex County, MassachusettsG.1 |
| The record of David's birth in the Rowley town records is curious, as there is no existing Joseph Wallingford to whom he can be attached that fits the date of birth. Perhaps the date is incorrect, or else the name of the father. If the date is incorrect he may be the son of Joseph Wallingford who married Elisabeth Baker in 1751. |

Mary Sawyer
F, b. 2 March 1729, d. 1819 or 1820?
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Mary Sawyer was born on 2 March 1729 in Newbury, Essex County, MassachusettsG.1,2,3 |
Marriage* | She married first, John Blaisdell of Chelmsford, Mass., on 5 August 1756, in Newbury, Essex County, MassachusettsG.4 |
Marriage* | She probably married second, Benjamin Wallingford, on 13 August 1777, in Rowley, Essex County, MassachusettsG. The only other Benjamin who could have married Mary is this Benjamin's nephew, although he was born in 1739 and married in 1762..5,6 |
Death* | Mary died in 1819 or 1820?. Could she be the widow Wallingford who died in Rowley, 23 March 1820, aged about 90 years? There appear to be no other obvious candidates in this database. The "Johnny Blaisdell" article states that she died in 1819 in Boxford7, yet the Boxford vital records have the death of Mary Wallingford, a married woman (doesn't say widowed, even though her husband was deceased at this time) who died in 1820, aged 72 years. This comes from a private record of deaths kept in the town.8 Our Mary would be about 90 years old at this time, so perhaps the Rowley death record is hers, and the Boxford record, kept by a private individual, got the age wrong.6 |
