Birth* | Frank R. Busheme was born in 1916 in New Britain, Hartford County, ConnecticutG.1 |
Marriage* | He married Josephine Bordieri, daughter of Paolo Bordieri and Angelina Brunaccini, on 14 December 1941 in Boston, Suffolk County, MassachusettsG. They were married by a priest whose address was given as 128 Gove Street. This was the address of the "Our Lady of Mount Carmel" Church. They were first cousins.2 |
Death* | Frank was killed in action during an enemy air attack on 1 or 7 Sep 1944 east of Vignot, FranceG.3,4 |
Burial* | He was buried in the Epinal American Cemetery in Epinal, FranceG. Plot B, Row 15, Grave 31. His initial burial took place in Champigneul Cemetery, Chalons-sur-Marne, France.5 |
| During World War II he rose to the rank of Technician 4th Class in the Army. At the time of his death in France he was with the 66th Field Artillery Batallion, 4th Armored Division. The cemetery memorial websites state his date of death as 7 Sep 1944 but an after-action report by the commanding officer states that the attack in which he died was on September 1st. He described the attack as follows: "Twelve enemy FW 100's [Focke Wulf] straffing and shooting rockets at our position greeted us the first day of September. The attack began at 1330, while we were in position E. of Vignot and lasted about ten minutes. Apparently the targets were our CP [Command Post] tents where practically all our casualties resulted. During the attack the men of Headquarters Battery conducted themselves admirably by firing more effectively. PFC John C. King continued to man his machine gun although wounded. The Battalion Medical Detachment, led by Capt. Sidney Grace, treated the casulaties while under 'fire.' In all, the courage, coolness and soldierly conduct of the men of Headquarters Battalion while being bombed and straffed was superb." On the next page he lists the casualties. In that bombing and staffing attack six men were killed including "Tec 4 Frank R. Busheme (Killed) (Sv Battery)." "Sv" presumably stands for a service battery, while others said Hq Battery for Headquarters. Fifteen men were wounded in the same attack. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.3,6 |

Marriage* | He married Bertha M. Kirchner, daughter of Edward Kirchner and Mary C. Dietzel, on 4 September 1915 at the Reformation Lutheran Church, 357 Jamaica Avenue in Brooklyn, Kings County, New YorkG.3 |

| In the 11 Dec 1908 issue of The Standard Union newspaper of Brooklyn (p.9) Henry Teschek is mentioned as being the assistant sergeant-at-arms of an organization called the Sciame and Sohl Association. In the 8 Apr 1909 issue of the same paper (p.7) Henry is one of the Trustees of a group called The Bradford P.C. that held their first meeting at the clubhouse at 402 Hendrix Street.
When the 1910 census was taken he was living with his mother and siblings in Brooklyn and was employed as an optician in an optical firm.
When they were married in Sep 1915 Henry was an optician living at 259 Cleveland Street in Brooklyn and Bertha was living at 391 Cleveland Street.
On 5 Jun 1917 Henry filled out his draft registration card. He was living at 727 Boyd Avenue in Woodhaven, N.Y. and was working as an optician for the Phillip Apfel Company of New York City. He claimed an exemption for support of his wife. He was described as short and slender, with blue eyes and brown hair.
He has not been located in the 1915 NY State census. His name was probably incorrectly indexed so if it is there it will be very hard to find.
The Brooklyn Daily Eagle newspaper of 27 Sep 1917 (p.4) recorded that "Mrs. H. Teschek of Brooklyn registered at the Eagle Tent at the Mineola Fair yesterday."
In 1920 the census found he and his wife Bertha living at 729 Boyd Avenue in Woodhaven in a home they owned themselves. His occupation was listed as an optician, and place of work was "Wholesale Mfr Optic[als?]" [the end of the word is difficult to read.]
The 4 Dec 1920 Times Union of Brooklyn (p.10) mentions Henry Teschek as being elected treasurer of a group called P.M. The Children of the Temple, while a 11 Dec 1920 article in The Chat of Brooklyn (p.24) says he was chosen as treasurer of a group called the Brotherhood of the Church of the Reformation.
By 1924 he had moved to 8927 88th Street in Woodhaven, and was still there when the 1925 New York State census was taken. Bertha's mother Mary and sister Edna Kirchner were living with them. He was still working as an optician.
In 1930 he and Bertha owned a home at 331 Frankel Blvd. in Merrick, N.Y. Henry was still employed as an optician for a wholesale manufacturer. Bertha worked as a clerk in a hearing devices company.
When he died in Jan 1936 he was living at 331 Frankel Boulevard in Merrick, N.Y., and had been living in that town for about eight years.
Henry and Bertha had no children. |
| His obituary appeared in the 29 January 1936 The Brooklyn Daily Eagle and read as follows:
