| While a birth record exists in Massachusetts for him stating that he was born in Salem, a corrected birth record for his son James states that James Sr. was born in Ballyvaughan, County Clare, Ireland. His twin sister Sandra's record, which wasn't corrected, states that her father was born in Salem. So his place of birth is uncertain, but that likely provides a clue as to where the Nolan familiy came from in Ireland.
When James and his first wife were married in Sep 1917 they were both living in Salem, Mass. James was working in the leather business and Catherine was a stenographer.
When he married his second wife at her home in Jamaica Plain he was still a leather worker and was living at Bare Hill Road in East Boxford, Mass. Willie was working as a clerk at the time. They were still on Bare Hill Road when their twins were born in May 1940, and James still worked in the leather business. |

| Paul served in World War I according to his 1930 census record, and in the Korean War according to his death record.
In the 1920 census he was a 24-year-old accountant with an electrical manufacturing company, still living in Lynn with his parents and two brothers.
In 1930 he and Loretta were living with her mother Annie White and two of Loretta's brothers at 88 Laighton St. in Lynn. Paul worked as an auditor for an oil refinery and Loretta was a bookkeeper in an electrical office company. No children were listed for them at the time.
There is a divorce notice in the 7 Jan 1936 issue of the Boston Globe (p.8) that reads: "Charging that her husband went to live in a camp and deserted her in 1932, Mrs. Loretta E. Dever of Lincoln st, Lynn, sued Paul W. Dever, also of Lynn."
I have been unable to find any evidence that they had any children. There were none in the 1930 census and they apparently separated in 1932.
In the 1950 census Paul was living with his cousin Alice (Maguire) Dee at 133 Wilson Road in Nahant, Mass. and was unemployed and divorced. His death record said he was an accountant. |
| When Paul and Loretta were married in October 1927 they were both living in Lynn. Paul was a "section leader" living with his parents at 153 Myrtle Street and Loretta was a clerk living at 88 Laighton Street.2 |
