| His obituary appeared in the 13 May 1897 Independent-Reporter of Skohegan, Maine and read as follows:
Death of Asa York. Mr. Asa York, one of Brighton's well known and respected citizens, died at his home April 10th, after a long and severe illness having reached the advaned age of 83 years, 5 months and 21 days. He was twice married, his first wife being Abigail Curtis, to them were born five children, one daughter, Mrs. Chas. Clark of Solon, and four sons. David A. of Cambridge, Daniel of Solon, Geo. W. of Cornville and' Mortimer York with whom he has always lived, who spared neither pains nor money in doing all that he could for him. All was done that loving hands could do but the end came peacefully at last. Mr. York was loved by all who knew him. I can truthfully say that he had not an enemy on earth. He was a faithful husband, a kind and loving father and an excellent neighbor. Brighton loses one of its best townsmen. He leaves one brother and one sister beside a large circle of friends to mourn their loss. The funeral was held at his late home Sunday at one o'clock, many friends and neighbors attended the service.3 |

| His obituary appeared in the 6 October 1960 Miami News and read as follows:
Barnett Hart, 97; Playwright's Father. A charming little old man who made up songs and sang them, and who had "a joke for every day in the week," died yesterday at the Miami Heart Institute. He was Barnett Hart, 97, father of famed playwright Moss Hart. "Everybody here loved him," the switchboard girl at the Miami Heart Institute said. "He was joking with me the day before he died," said Robert S. Summers, administrator of the institute. "He was always making up little ditties about his doctor or the nurses. One of his favorite jokes was that the Heart Institute was named after him." Summers said Hart kept "a close watch" on the careers of his sons, Moss and Bernard, and that he read the New York papers carefully. "He had a very keen mind." One of his most recent ditties was "When I'm 100." Mr. Hart had been a patient at the Miami Heart Institute for three years. He became a permanent resident of Miami in 1954, after making it his winter home for 24 years. Services will be at 7 p.m. today at the Normandy Isle Riverside Memorial Chapel.3 |
