When Carmela made her Declaration of Intention for U.S. citizenship in Jan 1943 she was a widow living at 111 Lawlor Street in New Britain. She was described as having a dark complexion, brown eyes, brown hair, five feet tall weighing 174 pounds. She said that she came to this country from Priolo on 24 Feb 1906 on board the ship 'Brasile,' travelling from Naples to New York City. She was still at 111 Lawlor - in apartment 2 - when the 1950 census was taken. Her granddaughter Lena Maietta and her family were living in the same building in apartment 3.7 |
