Birth* | Henry Joseph Armstrong, son of Henry Armstrong and Lillian Belanger, was born on 7 August 1928 at Salem Hospital in Salem, Essex County, MassachusettsG. The name on his birth certificate was Joseph Henry John Armstrong. His mother died of complications from childbirth four days after he was born.1,2,3 |
Marriage* | He married Susan Frances Burkinshaw, daughter of Charles Henry Burkinshaw and Susan Frances Dolan, on 24 November 1949 at St. James Church in Salem.4 |
Death* | Henry died on 12 March 1996 in Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Brevard County, FloridaG.2 |
| In the 1930 census of Salem, Mass. "Henry Armstrong Jr." is living with his aunt and uncle Emile and Irene Guerrette. These two are mentioned as being his parents in his obituary, so apparently his real parents Henry and Lillian (Belanger) were out of the picture by the time their son was two years old. Lillian and Irene were sisters, daughters of Leon and Elizabeth Belanger. However, in the 1940 census Emile Guerrette is a widowed head of household with Henry J. Guerrette as his son and Irene as his sister-in-law. The age of Irene in both censuses suggest she is the same person. |
