This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Joseph York was born circa 1794 in Exeter, Rockingham County, New HampshireG.1 |
Death* | He died on 10 July 1834 in Amesbury, Essex County, MassachusettsG.2,3 |
| Given that he was likely born in the 1790s in Exeter he is probably a child of John Carr York, Jonathan Young York, or Thaxter York.
There is no proof that he is the Mr. Joseph York who died in Amesbury, Mass. on 10 Jul 1834, aged 40. His death notice in the 22 Jul 1834 Exeter News-letter calls him "formerly of this town" and states that "His death was caused by drinking too freely of cold water." |

Marriage* | Jonathan York married Mary (?). |
Birth* | Jonathan York was born say 1779 in Candia, Rockingham County, New HampshireG.1 |
| All we know about this Jonathan comes from the death record of his daughter Harriet (York) Robinson in 1890, which stated that he was born in Candia. She was supposedly born in Gilmanton around 1809 so they must have lived there at that time. That death record also gave her father's occupation as Tanner.
Since Harriet's marriage intention was in Exeter in 1829 he may be the Jonathan York in the 1830 census of Exeter with one male aged 30-40, one female 15-20, and one female 50-60. There was also a Jonathan York who died in Exeter on 12 Feb 1831, aged 46. [NHVR Deaths, viewed on FamilySearch.com, ]
Is he the Jonathan York who enlisted in the Revolutionary War from Deerfield, N.H.? Deerfield and Candia border one another. [Cogswell, Elliot C. History of Nottingham, Deerfield, and Northwood, 1878, p.613] If so he would have had his daughter Harriet when he was in his late 40s. |

| Oliver's birth record in Exeter in 1823 did not have a first name, but the age on his death record of 36-6-21 calculates to 5 Mar 1823, which is just a month and a day off so he is likely the son born in 1823. In the 7 May 1838 issue of the Exeter News-Letter there was a notice published by Mary York stating that her son Oliver Everett York was of age to support himself and she would claim none of his earnings. [Scott Lee Chipman, New England Vital Records from the Exeter news-Letter, 1831-1865 (Camden, Maine: Picton Press, 1993-96), 2:203.] This was a common type of ad for a parent to place in the paper when their child got to a certain age.
At the time of their marriage in 1844 Oliver was from Exeter and Jane was from Lowell. Oliver's sister Harriet married a Charles Hardy from Lowell four years earlier. They may be siblings but their parentage is currently unknown. Neither of their births appear in the Lowell records so they were likely from elsewhere.
A little more than a month after his young son died Oliver had his name officially changed to Oliver E. Stone by an act of the State Legislature on 2 Jul 1847. At the same time John Q.A.
