Birth*Betsey Stanford was born on 11 April 1790 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland County, MaineG.1,2 
Marriage*She may have married Nathaniel Atkins, son of Paul Atkins and Mary White, on 26 December 1811 in Provincetown, Barnstable County, MassachusettsG. She was from Provincetown and he was from Truro. Intention filed in Truro on 7 Dec. Proof is currently lacking that it is this Nathaniel who married Betsey and not another, although he is the likliest candidate. Also, her maiden name has been seen in various places as Fanton, Panton, Standford and Stanford.3 
Death*Betsey Stanford died on 7 September 1862.4 
Burial*She was buried in Provincetown Cemetery in Provincetown.4

  2. It is not certain that this is the correct birth info and parentage for Betsey. We know she was born about 1790 because the age on her gravestone read 72 in 1862. Also, the death record of her daughter Betsey Weeks in 1893 said she was born in Cape Elizabeth. The death record of son Nathaniel in 1906 says she was b. in Provincetown, however there is no appropriate birth record in Provincetown that can be located.

Marriage*Joseph Atkins married second Mary Nickerson, daughter of Ebenezer Nickerson and Salome (?), on 4 May 1864 in Provincetown. It was Mary's third marriage, her second being to a man by the surname of Paine.3 
Death*Joseph Atkins died on 8 August 1872.4 
He was a mariner in 1850 and a yeoman in 1860, but was styled 'Gentleman' on his 1864 marriage record. Assuming, that is, that the census records apply to the same man. The occupations make one wonder. If they are not the same man, then his first wife might not have been Henrietta.

  2. We know from his marriage record in 1864 that it was his second marriage. Census records in 1850 and 1860 show what is probably him with a wife Henrietta who was age 60 in 1850 and 75 in 1860.

Death*Freeman Atkins died of dysentery on 15 August 1854 in Provincetown.3 
They lived in the last house at the west end of Provincetown. By 1916 the house was called "one of the show places, and is the summer home of New York parties."4
