Death*Joseph Atkins died before October 1814. He was called "the late Joseph" on the death record of his son Joseph in Oct 1814.2
There was a Capt. Joseph Atkins of Marblehead, mariner, who married Ruth Dolliver before 1740. They were living in Marblehead in 1740 and 1742, and she was living there as his widow in 1746. In 1748 she was living in Charlestown, Mass., and probably married second a man by the last name of Meroe. She was admitted to the Marblehead Church 22 Aug 1726, according to Marblehead Church Records.3 These could very likely be Joseph's parents, but his origins haven't been proven yet. His wife Elizabeth was from an old Marblehead seafaring familiy. It seems likely that Joseph was also a sailing man and could possibly have come from just about anywhere before he settled in Marblehead, assuming he isn't the son of Joseph and Ruth (Dolliver) Atkins.

The first two sons listed below - Joseph and William - are not proven to be members of this family. Their births do not appear in the town and church records with the later children, so might possible have taken place elsewhere. Either that or they just weren't recording the births of those children for some reason. They are being placed in this family because the dates work and they were all from Marblehead. Some secondary sources also place them here, without evidence provided.
