Birth*Jacob B. Wallingford was born circa 1824 in New HampshireG. (Based on 1850 census.)
Marriage*He married Lydia R. Horne on 9 February 1846 in Rochester, Strafford County, New HampshireG.1
Death*Jacob died before 18 August 1856 in Rochester, Strafford County, New HampshireG. (date of newspaper.)2
He was a Representative from Rochester in 1856.3
In the 1850 census the family was living in Rochester. Jacob was a farmer with a farm worth $4000, a fairly large amount for the time. His age was given as 26, born in N.H., and his wife Lydia R., age 25 was also born N.H. Their daughter Martha [A.?], was age 3, also born in N.H. Living with them were Rhoda R. Hodgdon, 52, born N.H., Abigail Wallingford, 78, born N.H. and deaf, and Betsey Hurd, 76, born N.H4. Rhoda is likely Jacob's mother, and Abigail is very probably his grandmother. Betsey Hurd is possibly another older female relative.
In 1860, after Jacob's death, Lydia R. Wallingford, age 34, born N.H., was living in Rochester with Martha A., age 13, Charles W., age 8, and Ella M., age 5, all born N.H. Also in the household was Lorenzo M. Fall, a 23-year old shoemaker born in N.H.5
In 1870 Lydia, now married to Philander Gale, gives her age, probably incorrectly, as 37. Philander, born in Mass. is 38, and Ellen M. Wallingford is 15. Also with them are John H. Nutter, 27, Abbie Nutter, 22, and a two month old unnamed baby Nutter (born in April) all born in N.H. Abbie Nutter may be a daughter of Philander Gale.

Marriage*She married second Philander Gale on 7 November 1865 in Dover, Strafford County, New HampshireG. Still Lydia R. Wallingford in 1860, she appears in the 1870 census of Rochester as Lydia R. Gale, wife of Philander. Her daughter Ellen M. Wallingford was still living with the family at the time. Dover city reports record a marriage between Lydia R. Wallingford and Fernando Gale on 7 November 1865, and this is in all probability the marriage record for Lydia and Philander.2 Based on the census record Philander was born about 1832 in Massachusetts.

Birth*Ella M. Wallingford was born circa 1855, probably in Rochester, Strafford County, New HampshireG. (Based on the 1860 and 1870 censuses.)
Despite her name clearly being Ella M. in the 1860 and Ellen M. in the 1870 censuses of Rochester, Charles Wallingford calls her Mary E. He also says that she married Joseph Villards and had a son Lewis, but he says the same thing about another Mary E. Wallingford, daughter of Lewis and Abigail (Merrow) Wallingford.1 Shackford agrees with the "Villards" marriage being to the other Mary, and also calls our "Ella" or "Ellen" M. Mary E, but gives no further info on her.2
She may be the Miss Ella Wallingford of Berwick who married William J. Champion in Berwick on 10 June 1887.3

Birth*Abigail Ricker was born say 1782. Her birth was not recorded with the rest of the family in the "Diary" of Somersworth schoolmaster Joseph Tate, but there are very few entries made after 1779. Evidence for her inclusion in the family comes from a deed that she and her husband were part of mentioned in her father's record above.
Marriage*She married William Thomas Lambert on 17 September 1807 in Rollinsford, Strafford County, New HampshireG.1
Death*Abigail died on 31 May 1869 in Charlestown, Middlesex County, MassachusettsG.2
They were living in Somersworth on 18 October 1813 according to the deed described under her father's record, above. They had two children. Their daughter Lucy married John Parker Hale who was a U.S. Senator for 16 years and later ambassador to Spain. One of that couple's daughters, Lucy Lambert Hale, married William E. Chandler, who was also a U.S. Senator in 1908.3 Before marrying Chandler she had the ignominious distinction of having been engaged to marry John Wilkes Booth at the time he assassinated Lincoln.
