She was born July 13, 1937 in Syracuse, the daughter of Cramer and Gertrude Hobart Becker. She retired as a custodian at Cazenovia High School. Surviving: daughters, Karen Hanfield of Cazenovia, Nancy Kelly of Erieville, and Kathleen (Walt) Cook of Sheds; sons, Lawrence of New Woodstock and Calvin of DeRuyter; Six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Sr. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private in Erieville Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home DeRuyter, has arrangements.4 |

She was born in Scarborough, a daughter of David and Florence Libby Farris, and for more than 20 years, worked for Burnham & Morrill Co. Mrs. Wallingford was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Portland. Her husband, Robert Wallingford, and three sons, Martin W. Farris, Melvile C. Farris and Robert Wallingford, all died previously. She is survived by several nieces and nephews; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at noon Monday at the Black Point Cemetery in Scarborough. Arrangements are by Hay & Peabody, 749 Congress St., Portland. |

Albert Wesley Farris Sr., 86 BRUNSWICK -- Albert Wesley Farris Sr., 86, died on Friday, May 10, 2013. He was born on Aug. 2, 1926, in Portland, the son of Joseph Daniel And Grace Farris Daniel. He attended Portland Schools and entered into service with the U.S. Navy in March 1944. During WWII he served aboard the USS Astoria. He married Emma Raymond on Dec. 23, 1950, in Portland. He later enjoyed a career as a long haul trucker for many years. His best memories were those times on the road, traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. When he was at home, he loved woodworking, coin collecting, and gathering with family and friends. He was a proud member of the American Legion, Post 164 and formerly served as County Commander. He was also a member of Grande Du Maine, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and an honorary member of the Brunswick Elks Club. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Alan Farris; four brothers, Philip Daniels, Melville Farris, Martin Farris, Robert Wallingford, and two sisters, Evelyn Mallar and Florence Mackie. He is survived by his wife Emma of Brunswick; two sons, Albert Farris Jr. and his wife Melissa of Brunswick, Clifford Farris and his wife Joanne of Hudson, Fla., two daughters, Grace Daniels and Susan Soutomah of Brunswick; 11 grandchildren, Miranda, Farris, Emma Farris, Clifford Farris Jr., Lisa Leiste, Jennifer Bergmann, Ed Comeau, Chris Comeau, Samantha Trevorrow, Michele Reed, Stephanie Staples, Ashley William; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. SOUTH PORTLAND--Minnie Mabel (Mackie) Wallingford, 79, of South Portland, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2010, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born October 6, 1930 in Monson, Maine, the daughter of William Onnie and Nina Doris (Mountain) Mackie. As a child she moved from Monson to Peaks Island in 1942. In 1946, Minnie and her family moved to South Portland, where she graduated 8th grade from Henley School. She met her love of her life, Robert "Pat" Wallingford in 1947, when he was working for her father. They were married on March 20, 1948. She worked many jobs in her life time to support her family. She worked for Ray Mac Taxi, Songo Shoes, Home-Stickney Shoes, Seaboard Packing, Standard Linen Uniforms, E.T. Burrows and Unum. Her last job was with Pratt-Abbott Dry Cleaners. She worked at Pratt¬Abbott for 15 years. Minnie was a strong woman, who continued to raise her children after the passing of her husband in 1971. She was a loving grandmother who doted on her grandchildren. She was a lover of animals. She was proud to celebrate her husband's Irish heritage every year on St. Paddy's Day and recently discovered her own Irish heritage this past year. She proudly supported the South Portland football team and even received an honorary fan award from the SP Football Boosters. She proudly supported the South Portland fire department and would assist her daughter in taking photos of many fire drills and calls for training purposes. She was a member of the Red Hats Society of Westbrook and the Redman's Hall Pocohontas Society. Minnie is predeceased by her husband Robert (Pat) Wallingford, sons Robert (Bobby) Wallingford Jr. & Richard (Dick) Wallingford, parents William & Nina Mackie, sisters Viola (Mackie) Holt, Doris (Mackie) Crandell, Virginia (Mackie) Maloney, brothers Thomas (Mickey) Mackie and John C. Wallingford Jr.‚ born January 6‚ 1949‚ was a life-long resident of South Portland‚ Maine‚ a 30 year member of its Volunteer Fire Department‚ a Police Reserve Member of 10 years and a diesel mechanic / heavy equipment operator for South Portland Public Works for 23 years until his death. August 27. 1996‚ Captain Robert (Bobby) Wallingford Jr. died of a massive heart attack while fighting his city’s largest fire in its history‚ the Portland Welding Fire.
Bobby was an outstanding example of leadership‚ unselfish devotion to community‚ pride and loyalty. Firefighting was undeniably a family love and tradition. His father‚ brother‚ a sister and his own three children‚ Robert III‚ Rena and Ryan were also members of South Portland’s Ferry Village Engine One. Captain Wallingford Jr. died doing what he loved most‚ surrounded by those he loved most‚ his three children and fellow firefighters.
Captain Wallingford Jr. was a staunch advocate for higher education‚ always the ‘Dad’ and mentor‚ respected and loved by all who knew him. A scholarship‚ The Captain Robert E. Wallingford Jr. Scholarship Fund‚ for either Law Enforcement or Fire Science is offered each year for first year students attending Southern Maine Community College‚ Fort Road‚ South Portland‚ Maine.4 |

Robert E. Wallingford Jr., 47, of Walnut Street died Tuesday at a Portland hospital after suffeing a heart attack while fighting the Portland Welding Supply Co. fire here. He was born in Portland, son of Robert E. and Minnie M. Mackie Wallingford Sr. He attended local schools and was a graduate of South Portland High School in 1969 and the Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1971. He was a member of the 1969 South Portland High School football team lost to Bangor 7-6 in the state Class A championship game. Since 1974, he had worked as a heavy duty equipment operator with the South Portland Public Works Department. He was a member of the South Portland Rescue for 10 years, a past president of the Cumberland County Muster Association, a member of the Public Works Union and a union representative. Mr. Wallingfored was also a member of the Spurwink Rod & Gun Club in Cape Elizabeth, the National Rifle Association, the Cumberland County Firemen's Association and was an officer of the Maine State Federation of Firefighters. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He attended the South Portland Church of the Nazarene. Since he was a teen-ager, Mr. Wallingford had been a member of the South Portland Engine 1 Call Company, and had been a captain for more than 15 years. He was very influential in helping young people and Southern Maine Technical College students about firefighting over the years. He was involved with the Spring Point Festival organizing many of the Fire Department activities. Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Linda Provencher Wallingford, two sons, Robert E. III and Ryan E., and a daughter, Rena E. Wallingford, all of South Portland; two sisters, Jean K. Burgess of Hollis and Jane K. Grabler of South Portland; and his mother of South Portland. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the South Portland Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Brooklawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home.2 |
