This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | David Wallingford was born in 1801 in Milton, Strafford County, New HampshireG.1 |
Marriage* | He married Mary Ann Tasker on 21 September 1828. They were married by the Rev. Enoch Hayes Place.2 |
Death* | David died on 20 July 1878 in Milton, Strafford County, New HampshireG. He was buried in the Plummer-Jones-Palmer Cemetery on Plummer's Ridge in Milton, N.H.3 |
| David's brother Samuel's widow Sally's second husband Levi Jones kept an account book that can be found in the Special Collections room of the University of New Hampshire library. In it he mentions the employment of David Wallingford Jr. This may refer to this David or to his nephew, son of Samuel. The designation "Jr." would seem to indicate this David, however the fact that the nephew David is Levi's stepson presents another possibility. Another employee at the store was Nahum Tasker who married this David's sister Mary. The first entry mentioning David's employment says he began work 21 April 1834, and the last was on 24 July 1847. Levi died a month later.
On 17 May 1834 David was appointed guardian of Isaac L. Scates, George W. Scates and Clarissa Scates, minor children of Isaac Scates, late of Milton. He gave bond of $1000 with his father-in-law Levi Jones and John H. Horn, both of Milton. Isaac Scates was the brother-in-law of David's brother Samuel, and also was brother to Deacon John Scates, who had been guardian to David himself after his father's death. (See his father's record for more information on this.) On 22 January 1840, after the death of Isaac's widow Betsey, David was appointed administrator of his estate. He gave bond of $1000 with Levi Jones and John H. Varney, both of Milton.4
In the 1850 census David Wallingford, a 49-year old farmer, born N.H., was living in Milton on a farm worth $1500, which was bigger than average for its day. Living with him are his wife Mary and six children, as well as Sarah Wallingford, age 78, born N.H.5 This is probably his mother Sarah (Corson) Wallingford. Ten years later they are still in Milton on a farm now worth $3000, with personal property worth $900. Five children as well as David's probable mother Sarah, age 88, are living with them.6 In 1870 David and Mary are still in Milton. The farm is now worth $4000 and their personal possession estate worth $982 and only their son David and his wife Mary are living with them.
David represented Milton in the State Legislature, and served as a Justice of the Peace. Politically he was a Republican7. Other names after his on David's tombstone are probably all children of his, and include Samuel Wallingford, 1830-1830, David W. Wallingford, 1844-1844, and Susan E. Wallingford, 1852-1856. These may not be children of David and Mary Ann but for the time being they will be added here assuming they are. One source states that he had ten children in all, only three of whom (Samuel W., David W., and Emma F., were living in 1897.7

This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Mary Wallingford was born on 19 October 1798 in Milton, Strafford County, New HampshireG.1 |
Marriage* | She married Nahum Tasker, son of Nathaniel Tasker and Elizabeth (?), in April 1825 in Milton, Strafford County, New HampshireG. Nahum was from Dover and Mary from Milton when they were married.2,3 |
Death* | Mary died on 5 January 1868 in Milton, Strafford County, New HampshireG. She was buried in the Tasker Cemetery on Plummer's Ridge, in Milton, N.H.4 |
| All we know of her parentage comes from the Milton Town Report record of her death that gives her parents' names as D. Wallingford and Sarah -----. This is very probably David and Sarah (Corson) Wallingford, as we know that they did have a daughter Mary. Her husband Nahum Tasker worked for a time in the shop of Levi Jones in Milton. Jones kept an account book that can be found at the University of New Hampshire Library in its Special Collections room. There isn't any important genealogical information in it but it does frequently mention Nahum Tasker and his employment in the store and items that he purchased. The family of Nahum and Mary Tasker appears in the 1850 census of Milton. Nahum, 46, born in N.H. was a farmer on a farm worth $500. Mary was aged 50, also born in N.H. Four children -- George, 20, Abby A., 15, Clary, 12, and Hiram, 9 -- were living with them, all born in N.H.5 In 1860 the family is still in Milton on a $600 farm with personal property worth $500. Nahum is 57 and Mary 60, and with them are Clara W., 21 and Hiram H., 196. They were living next door to two David Wallingford families, one her brother and the other her nephew. Her brother David was married to Mary Ann Tasker, who is likely a sister of Nahum's.

Birth* | Nahum Tasker was born on 30 June 1807? In Strafford, Strafford County, New HampshireG. However he was 46 in the 1850 census and 57 in the 1860 census, suggesting a birth date more in the vicinity of 1803. In addition, Strafford wasn't incorporated until 1820, even though it had been settled before the Revolution.1 |
Marriage* | He married Mary Wallingford, daughter of David Wallingford and Sarah Corson, in April 1825 in Milton, Strafford County, New HampshireG. Nahum was from Dover and Mary from Milton when they were married.2,3 |
