Birth*	Mary W. Wallingford was born circa August 1821 in Acton, York County, MaineG. (From death record, age 79y, 2m) (Note: Acton didn't become a town until 1830, formed from the town of Shapleigh, so she was probably technically born in Shapleigh. Her marriage record states she was age 25, and gives her parentage.)
Marriage*	She married Rufus W. Stevens, son of Whiting Stevens and Abigail (?), on 30 September 1846 in Lowell, Middlesex County, MassachusettsG. At the time of their marriage Rufus was from Somersworth employed as a merchant and Mary was from Lowell, employed as an "operator", presumably in one of the Lowell mills.1,2
Death*	Mary died of "phthisis pulmon" on 31 October 1900 in Somersworth, Strafford County, New HampshireG. Phthisis is also known as consumption, or tuberculosis of the lung.3

Birth*	Rufus W. Stevens was born circa 1823. He was 23 when he got married. The marriage record also gives his parentage. The published Lowell records give his middle initial as E. but the Mass. vital records microfilm copy has W. His marriage notice in the newspaper says W.
Marriage*	He married Mary W. Wallingford, daughter of Peter Wallingford and Sarah Sherburn Watson, on 30 September 1846 in Lowell, Middlesex County, MassachusettsG. Sarah Wallingford was born say 1822 to 1825, probably in Athens, Somerset County, MaineG. Her parents were living in Athens at the time, but it isn't certain that she was born there. In the 1830 census of Athens, Maine her father had, in addition to other children, one daughter aged 5-10, one of whom may have been Sarah. In 1840, she may have been one of the two girls aged 15-20. Either she or her sister Abigail probably died young.1

Might she be the Sarah Wallingford "of Berwick" who married, 21 July 1854, in Berwick, Ivory Henry Hayes.2 See the "Unconnected Individuals" appendix for more on this couple. She may also be the Miss Sarah Wallingford who married Charles P. Stevens in Lebanon on 4 May 1851.3,4 Neither is all that likely, however, given that she grew up in Athens, Maine and there were several other Wallingford families in the Berwick and Lebanon areas.

Birth*

Lydia Wallingford was born say 1833, probably in Athens, Somerset County, MaineG. Her parents were living in Athens at the time, but it is not certain that she was born there. She was probably the daughter aged 5-10 enumerated in her father's household in the 1840 census of Athens.1

She may be the Lydia Wallingford living in the household of Henry and Abigail (Libby) Mason in Porter, Maine during the 1850 census.2 That individual was listed as 19 years of age and born in Maine. Abigail (Libby) Mason was her first cousin, daughter of her father's sister Lydia.      She may be the Lydia Wallingford who married H.C. Tibbets and died in 1875. Tibbets was born in Maine in 1828 and lived in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, which is where Lydia's family moved.
