| His obituary appeared on the Neptune Society website and read as follows:
James Wylie Roberts—lovingly known as Jim, Dad, Poppie—passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. Jim lived a rich, vibrant life full of adventure, travel, service, music, and deep love for his family. A proud Texan and a true gentleman, Jim was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Priscilla Anne Roberts; his parents, James Barton and Rose Mary Roberts; his identical twin brother, Don Michael Roberts; and his grandson, Knox Walker MacEwen. Jim leaves behind a legacy of love through his four children—James G. Roberts (Joni), Emily Nadeau (Mark), Julie MacEwen (Kevin), and Carrie Sellers (Jeffrey)—and adoring grandchildren: Emma, Bennett, Preston, Fiona, Matilda, Levi, Ruby, Lincoln, Olivia, Grayer, Campbell, Charlotte, Logan, Brooke, Marley, and Maisie. Each of them carries a piece of his warmth, wisdom, and kindness. He is also survived by his half-sister, Randy Willberg, and his half-brother, Charles Barton Roberts. Commander Roberts honorably served 27 years in the United States Navy, retiring from NAS Jacksonville as a proud member of the Navy Nurse Corps. He later continued his career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and patients alike. Jim’s life was one of unwavering devotion to his family and love for adventure. He was a gifted storyteller, sharing laughter and memories as a member of The Players Championship Storytellers, and he brought joy to many through his music with The First Coast Highlanders bagpipe and drum band. He also loved music, especially country, and could often be found at concert venues. As a seasoned traveler and explorer, Jim once circumnavigated the globe by sea, and during his lifetime visited many places around the world. His most recent travels this past year took him to Norway, New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Nice and the French Riviera—testament to his enduring spirit of adventure and curiosity. Jim Roberts was one of the finest men you could ever know—faithful, kind, generous, loyal and strong. He will be remembered not only for what he did, but for who he was: a loving father, a proud grandfather, a devoted husband, a loyal friend, and a man of impeccable integrity. His life was a gift to all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts and stories of those who loved him most. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at High Point Community Church, with a reception to follow.5 |
