Birth* | John Grant Wallingford was born on 8 August 1885 in Napa, Napa County, CaliforniaG.1 |
Marriage* | He married Mary Elizabeth Cushing, daughter of Melzar Hatch Cushing and Martha Belle Nowlin, circa 1912. Proof of their marriage is based on the 1920 census, where John is living with Melzar H. Cushing as his son-in-law and Mary is listed as Melzar's daughter and their son John Wallingford is Melzar's grandson. In the 1930 census it gives their ages at marriage, but the second digit for both of them is very difficult to read. They were in their twenties. John's looks like 26 and Mary's like 22 or 27. They were likely married around, but not necessary in, 1912. |
Death* | John Grant Wallingford died on 8 February 1957 in Los Angeles, CaliforniaG.1 |
Burial* | He was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Seattle.1 |

Birth* | Melvin A. Atkins was born circa August 1819 in Portland, Cumberland County, MaineG.1 |
Marriage* | He married Eliza Jane Corbett. |
Death* | Melvin A. Atkins died on 22 March 1859 in Portland, Cumberland County, MaineG.2 |
Burial* | He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, Cumberland County, MaineG.3 |
| Melvin and Eliza and their two children Frances and Henry are in the 1850 census of Brunswick, Maine. His occupation is hard to read and looks like "Tailey." One would assume "Tailor", but the last letter loops below the line like a 'y'.
A search of the 1860 census of Maine didn't locate Melvin, but Eliza J. Atkins and the children are living in the household of James R. Corbett and wife Jane in Brunswick. James and Jane are of age to be Eliza's parents, but could also be an aunt and uncle. The fact that Melvin is not in the 1860 census gives strength to the argument that the 1859 death record for Melvin A. Atkins in Portland is our man. |

Their marriage eventually ended in divorce, after which Clara married two more times, both to a pair of Rowe brothers. She had four more children with her second husband.6
She and second husband Edward were living in Newington, N.H. in the 1930 census. Living with them were their four children, as well as a son by Clara's first marriage. Edward was employed as a general laborer and they owned a home worth $2000.7 |
