This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Arthur Augustus Wallingford was born about 1844/45 in Stanstead, Quebec, CanadaG. His marriage record states that he was age 30 on May 12, 1875, implying birth between 11 May 1844 and 12 May 1845. His father's first wife died 21 July 1845 so if his age at marriage is correct he would be the son of his father's first wife Emeline, despite the fact that he listed his mother as Minerva on his marriage record. |
Marriage* | He married Nancy S. McGovern, daughter of James McGovern and Sarah Leach, on 12 May 1875 in Boston, Suffolk County, MassachusettsG. Arthur was a police officer and they were both living in Boston at the time of their marriage. It was Nancy's second marriage.1 |
Death* | Arthur died of phthisis on 21 April 1877 in Boston, Suffolk County, MassachusettsG.2 |
| They were living at 12 Washington St. in Boston when their daughter Ella died in June 1877. Arthur was a policeman living at 28 Langdon St. in Boston when he died in April 1877. When Nancy died in 1935 she was living at 24 Central St. in Milford, and had been living in Milford for the past twenty years. Her occupation was listed as housewife, and it stated that she last worked at this occupation in March of 1925, having done it for 60 years. The informant on her death certificate was J. Edward Neelon of the same address, who was called her son, presumably by her first marriage to James Kneeland. |

Her own death record and the death record of her daughter Ella states that she was born in Holliston, Mass., but her own marriage record to Arthur Wallingford states that she was born in Milford, Mass., aged 30. Parentage comes from her death record, which states that she was aged 90 and that her parents were born in Ireland. No record of her birth can be found in the Mass. Vital Records birth indexes. |

| When the 1880 census was taken he was living with his widows mother and sister Ida on Delaware Street in Indianapolis and was an architect.
He graduated from the Naval Academy at Annapolis and took up the study of architecture under Edwin May, the designer of the Indiana State Capitol, in Indianapolis. He joined the firm of Reed and Stem in St. Paul, Minnesota, becoming a partner in 1888. He became a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 1882. He returned to Indianapolis to open an office for the firm, but soon resumed independent practice there until his death on March 21, 1909.
He is listed in the 1890/91 city directory for St. Paul, Minnesota as an architect. When the 1900 census was taken he and his wife and son Daniel were living at 39 Michigan Street in Center Township, Indiana, and he gave his occupation as architect. Minnie was said to be the mother of only one child at the time.
His wife Minnie died in a nursing home in Concord, N.H., but her death record said her usual place of residence was the Hotel Puritan in Boston. She had been in the nursing home for just over five years. Her occupation was said to be as a Christian Science practitioner. She graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1879, and since 1951 was the oldest living graduate of that institution. |
