Birth*Jonathan Fairbanke was born in the 1590s probably in the parish of Halifax, West Riding of Yorkshire, EnglandG. He was born either ca. 1592 to his father's first wife (whose name is uncertain) or to his father's second wife Isabella Staincliffe, before or after 18 May 1595, when his sister Susan was baptized in Halifax. The Register article from which this information comes states that "there is good evidence that Isabella Staincliffe was Jonathan's mother", but does not go into any further detail on the matter.1
Marriage*He married Grace Smith on 20 May 1617 in Halifax, West Riding of Yorkshire, EnglandG. Grace was "of Warley" at the time of their marriage.2
Death*Jonathan died on 5 December 1668 in Dedham, Norfolk County, MassachusettsG
Jonathan and his wife and six children emigrated to New England around 1636. He first appeared in Massachusetts records on 23 Mar 1636/7, when he subscribed to the covenant of the newly-established town of Dedham.

The house built for the family in Dedham still exists and is owned by the Fairbanks Family in America, Inc., and operated as a museum.2

Death*Mary died Executed by hanging as a witch on 22 September 1692 in Salem, Essex County, MassachusettsG
Mary (Towne) Esty was among the last eight victims to be hung as an accused witch in the infamous Salem witch trials. Her spirited petition to the court made as she awaited her execution may have contributed to the end of the witchcraft mania, as there were no further executions for witchcraft in New England after her death. For a complete account of her life and times see the McMillen book "Currents of Malice."
