Birth*	Joseph Atkins was born on 3 June 1741 in Eastham, Barnstable County, MassachusettsG.1
Marriage*	He married first Martha Mayo on 5 January 1769 in Wellfleet, Barnstable County, MassachusettsG. They filed their intetion on 24 Dec 1795. Both were from Wellfleet.2
	At present it is unknown for sure what became of Joseph and Martha after their marriage was recorded. No childrens' birth records can be located. In searching hundreds of ancestry.com family trees on this family only one child ever appeared - Joseph - and that was only in a few cases. The 1790 census doesn't appear to record him, as the few Josephs recorded in the area towns all seem to be others of the name. It's possible that Joseph was a seaman like many in his family and Martha was living with her own family when the census taker came. Seamen were supposed to be reported in their land homes but if Joseph was away a lot they might have lived full time with Martha's family, even when he was home from his travels.
