AUBURN - Carolyn Chaplin Grant died peacefully the morning of Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, in Lewiston. She was 94. She was born in Memphis, Tenn., Oct. 4, 1922, to Alan and Florence (Rogers) Chaplin. Carolyn moved to Illinois in the 1920s and then she moved with her family to Maine as a teenager, settling in Sebago. Carolyn retired to Florida for 20 years and enjoyed her friends and community in Fort Myers, and loved picnicking on Sanibel Island beach. She attended schools in Sebago and graduated as salutatorian of her class in 1940 from Potter Academy. She graduated from the University of Maine in Orono in 1945 with a degree in nutrition. Carolyn loved the University of Maine at Orono, and she remained active in the UMO alumni association for many years. In 1991, she was awarded the "Block M" award from UMO for leadership in the Alumni organization. In 2000, she was proud to receive the Black Bear Award from UMO for her outstanding service, devotion and loyalty to UMO and the Alumni Association. Carolyn married Henry William Bradley in Wellesley, Mass., Aug. 6, 1946, and they raised two children together, Linda and Cynthia. After her husband William passed away, she married Dr. Stephen Russell in 1967, and Richard Russell and Bonnie Russell joined the family. Carolyn married Ralph Grant in 1974, after Stephen Russell's death, and was married to him until he passed away in 2005. Carolyn worked as a registered dietician at Eastern Maine Hospital in Bangor, at Portland's Osteopathic Hospital and for Mercy Hospital in Portland, from which she retired. Carolyn loved Big Band music and dancing, especially the jitter-bug, which she continued to dance until very recently. She also enjoyed her "Lakeside Thistle" home in Raymond, which holds many wonderful memories for the entire family. This was a special place for her and where she enjoyed much time with her beloved grandchildren. Carolyn was a wonderful host and loved being surrounded by friends and family. She always was happy to make her home a gathering place for holidays or any get-together. Carolyn is survived by her chil-dren, Richard Russell of Dayton; Linda Osborn of Pawling, N.Y; Cynthia Bradley of Casco; and Bonnie Philbrick of Saco; her brother, Jack Chaplin, of Fort Myers, Fla; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Carolyn also is survived by her dear friend of 75 years, Constance "Aunt Connie" Lamprell, of York. A private funeral service will be held in Windham. Arrangements are by Affordable Cremation Solution, LLC, in Auburn.6 |

When they were married in Aug 1947 Robert and Margaret were living in Bangor. He worked as a sales rep for Proctor & Gamble. She was a medical technology student.
When the 1950 census was taken Robert and Margaret were living at on the 3d floor at 50 Mattapan Street in Boston (Mattapan) and he worked as a merchandise checker at a retail department store. Margaret was employed as a medical technologist at the State Hospital.
The 1975 Greenwich, Conn. city directory lists them at 95 Perkins Road and said that Robert was vice president of the W.T. Grant Co. in New York. Their son Stephen was living with them.
In 1994 they were living at 418 Pine Ridge Road in Carthage, N.C. and had a second residence in Whispering Pines, N.C. Another directory sources states that from 1995-2002 they were at 242 Pine Ridge Road in Carthage. |

Margaret Elizabeth Chaplin, better known as Betty or Mimi, passed peacefully in her sleep and went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2019. Betty was born in Brewer, ME to Helen and James Richard Ambrose on January 18, 1924. She earned her B.S. degree from the University of Maine in Medical Technology. She is most remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated herself to her family. In retirement, she and her husband, Bob, enjoyed travelling the world. At age 60, she also took up painting and joined an Art League near her home. Her watercolors of flowers and scenic views were both beautiful and valued; she sold many over the years. In her spare time, you could frequently find her on the Whispering Pines golf course, and, in her later years, setting up the ball for a better shot. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert Rogers Chaplin. She is survived by her children, Mark (Jesse) Chaplin (Vermont), Steve (Sue) Chaplin (Richmond), Nancy (Sam) Garrett (Va. Beach) and Laurie (Jim) Bentsen (Minnesota) and by 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.3 |
