| In the 1850 census of Brooks, Maine Gershom is a farmer living with his wife and four children: Ellen (7), Julia (6), Marietta (4) and Albert (3).
In 1860 there were seven children: Ellen (17), Julia (16), Mary E. (14), Albert (12), Annah (9), Adliade (sic) (6), and Edwin (4). His mother Hannah and sister Hannah were living with them.
The 1870 census of Brooks shows them with only three children: Albert (28), Adelaide (16), and Edwin (14). Apparently they had no other children after Edwin. Mother and sister Hannah are not there.
Find-a-grave shows that two daughters were buried with Gershom and Lydia: Julia Elizabeth (1844-1925) and Susan Adelaide (1854-1893). Those two married the same man- Horatio Littlefield Elwell.
Gershom was the Brooks tax collector in 1844-45, following in the footsteps of his father who held the job in 1843.4 |
