| Her Family Search Family Tree shows her parents as Ebenezer Wise Jr. and Mary Hazelton, but in the Hebron, NH town records that list the births of their children there is a Joanna ten years earlier and no child born in 1794, but the birth record for Joanna Wise in Groton, NH does who that date, and her parents' names there are Eben Wise and Mary. So she may be the daughter of a different Ebenezer and Mary Wise than what the Family Search Family Tree shows. |

| The information on Horace's record is very preliminary and may contain errors.
First off, his parentage. The fact that he was from Holderness means that he most certainly belongs to the family of Benjamin York and Rebecca Coffin. But he is of age to be a grandson and not a son. Benjamin and Rebecca had three sons who were old enough to have a son Horace born in 1816. The first, William Ward York, moved to Nobleboro, Maine and died there by May 1822. That makes it less likely that a son of his would wind up back in Holderness, but certainly not impossible, so William should be considered a possible, if less likely, father for Horace.
Another older son of Benjamin and Rebecca was Ebenezer but he supposedly married in 1823 according to his Family Search Family tree [https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/K4FS-DRM] so if this is true he couldn't have had a son in 1816. But the Family Search tree could definitely be wrong.
That leaves as the most likely father Benjamin Coffin York, but it is far from certain. His Family Search Family Tree [https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/LH5F-TQJ] states that he married his first wife Joanna Wise around 1825, which would be too late to have had Horace in 1816, but that date seems to come as a guesstimate based on the birth of their first listed child in 1827 so may be way off. An Ancestry tree shows that child born in 1820, for example. The same Ancestry tree gives an earlier wife to Benjamin named Sally Batchelder but that is a different Nottingham, NH couple. There is another connection to Benjamin Coffin York, and that is through his second wife Martha, who when they married was Mrs. Martha Cummings. She is probably the Martha Weeks whose first husband Samuel Cummings who was of New Hampton, NH when he made his will 1 April 1835, only a few months before Benjamin York and Martha Cummings were married. The will was probated on 8 June and it mentions his wife Martha, a brother, and a girl named Juliann Chase to whom he left $50 to be paid at her marriage day or when she turns eighteen. Nothing is stated in the will as to how she is related, if at all. Horace B. York's wife's name on various records was spelled as Julia, Julia A. and Julian. In various deeds from Horace where she releases her dower her name is spelled as Julia Ann in the text of the deeds but she signed her name Julian. Julia's gravestone has her born in 1822, so she would have been age 13 when Samuel Cummings made his will, which fits. Then there is Horace's marriage record as published in the Freewill Baptist newspaper Morning Star in 1838 that names his bride as Eliza Chase. Could that be an error in the newspaper or the transcription confusing Juliann for Eliza? Or is Eliza a first wife who died young and then he was married to Juliann by Jan 1841 when she first appears in a deed with Horace? For now we will assume that the marriage notice is wrong, and that the marriage was actually for Juliann Chase, the same person mentioned in the will of Samuel Cummings who would have come into the family through the marriage of Benjamin Coffin York and Martha (Weeks) Cummings. Confusing matters more is Julia's death notice that states that her parents were Benjamin C. York and Martha Weeks. If I had to guess I'd say that she was an adopted child of Samuel and Martha Cummings, who was then taken in by Benjamin when he married Martha, and ended up marrying Benjamin's son by his first marriage Horace York. The gravestones of Horace and Julia York Robbins (she remarried later on) are on one stone so they were likely husband and wife, and not siblings. The circumstantial evidence of the Cummings will naming a Juliann Chase and Horace's wife being a Juliann, plus a marriage to a Chase, brings it all together. But all of this is very speculative and much more research is necessary.
When the 1850 census was taken the family was living in Holderness. Horace was a farmer on land valued at $1000. Ten years later they were still in Holderness and his real estate was valued at $1800, personal estate at $500. |

| Her placement as a child of Richard York is far from proven. She is mentioned in the history of Meredith, NH as a wife of Capt. Joseph Robinson of Epping and Meredith, NH, and gives her years of birth and death. If from Epping and born in 1768 she would likely be a child of either John or Richard York, and John already has an older daughter Judith. Now that older Judith might have died, or the dates for our Judith could be wrong, making it possible she is a child of John. And, of course, she might belong to some other family entirely, such as one in the Meredith area, but she is placed as a daughter of Richard for the time being until further evidence is found. Also note that her husband Joseph Robinson's mother was a Wadleigh, just like her mother if she was Richard's daughter. |
