- When he died is uncertain, but would have been after their second child was conceived in 1890. Ella's second marriage record in 1898 said she was a widow, and both of their daughters' marriage records said that her father was deceased. Daughter's Harriet's second marriage record in 1930 gave her deceased father's age as 24, which is presumably the age he was when he died. No death record has been found for a William Champion born who died between 1890 and 1898. There is a 3 Sep 1945 death record for a William Champion in Lynn, Mass. but that person was son of Lorenzo and Sylvinia (Day) Champion according to his death record. That William was age 77y, 3m, 16d when he died, which calculates to 18 May 1868, and it also said he was born in Effingham, which is near Wakefield but it is for the wrong set of parents.
