Henry Cragy
M
This research is a work in progress, taken from sources of varying reliability. The information should be verified before being relied upon.
Birth* | Henry Cragy was born. |
| On 13 March 1564/5 Henry disposed of some of his heritage lands in Brough, Tenstay (Sandwick) and Kirkwall to his brother-in-law William Halcro of Aikers. He did this in payment for William having taken care of him for eight years or more since the decease of his parents, who were named, and in hope that this support would continue likewise in the future. His "elder brother" Magnus gave his consent and signed the document. Henry later sold land in 1564, and may have been the Henry who was deceased by 25 November 1578 and had the following children, although it is unproven. This Henry had children Thomas, James, Oliver, Katherine, Magnus and Janet, the last two who were apparently minors in 1578. If the older children were not minors, however, this would mean that they had to have been born before "our" Henry disposed of lands in 1564/5 at a time when he was being taken care of by his brother-in-law. No mention was made in that dispostion of any children he had, so it is possible that either all these children were minors in 1578, or they belong to some other Henry. The original record, cited by Clouston as simply "Halcro Inventory", needs to be checked. |

| He lived at Brugh, Rousay during the period around 1600. The one source that lists him as a child of Magnus gives no reason for this assumption, although it does state that he is only "seemingly" son of Magnus. In all likelihood he is placed here only because he lived at Brugh in the right time period. He could well be some other kind of relation to Magnus. |
